Yikes! Halfway? Crap…

So seeing it spelled out in type like that, made it real. Halfway? Seriously? I am doing well on meeting my weekly goals for times to sit down and write, which is good, but I am not being as productive as I’d like. It’s a function of life with three boys running around, summer time and the lovely weather, and that last week we were in Florida for a much-needed family vacation.

But now that we are back, game on…I will try to be better about not just screwing off and getting down to business. I really would like to have a finished product by the end of the summer. It helps to have a partner to be accountable to, thanks Serena!

Already?

Did you send your pal a little something to encourage her in this endeavor we call writing?

Do you feel like taking a few minutes to evaluate your progress and maybe revise your goals for this month?  I plan to.

Do you wish I’d get the list of blogs up?  Would you help me by emailing me the url you’d like me to use?  See, I’m being a bit lazy and figure I’ll let you do half the work for me!  The e-mail to use is wordnerdcoopATyahooDOTcom.  If you’re already listed, well, just skip this step!

Would you like to post a writing prompt?  How about one of the non-fiction writers first?

Could I ask more questions on the first day of July?

1. At what level would you describe yourself as a writer (for instance, just starting to take myself seriously; searching for a graduate program, etc.)?

I would love to finish a novel. I have three started, and none are finished. I am a published poet with several poems in online and print journals. I am also currently working on a short story as well, which is humming along.

I would love to get into a graduate degree program as well, but with money tight, I doubt that will happen soon.

2. What genre(s) do you write?

Poetry, novel, and short story

3. How do you fit writing into your life right now?

Usually on Wed. nights because the Hubby is off at class.

4. What is your goal for this project (June 1-Aug. 31)?

To finish a novel or get so close I can taste it. To stick to writing three days per week at least.

5. What steps do you plan to take to reach that goal?

Set aside more writing and editing time, make definitive efforts to keep to a schedule.

6. How do you reward yourself (or how would you like to be rewarded) when you meet a goal?

A stop at the library or bookstore for a book I am dying to read.

7. What writing craft books do you have/like?

I have a ton of writing books, but the 3am Epiphany has helped with my writer block.

8. Any craft books you’re interested in checking out?

I’m open to most any book, particularly those dealing with the long haul of writing novels, though I cannot outline to save my soul.

9. What inspires your writing?

My muse; honestly, I have no idea…things I observe in life. Music on some occasions.

10. How would your author’s blurb read?

Small town girl with big dreams writes larger-than-life stories

11. Tell us about your family (partners, kids, pets, etc.)

One husband, one dog, two cats; that’s enough; some great friends.

12. Have you ever participated in Nanowrimo (finished or not!)?

twice, never finished (one of the unfinished novels is a result of Nanowrimo)

13. What can you do to make it easier on yourself to meet your goal for this project?

Set an achievable writing goal for three days out of the week.

14. What are you looking for in terms of support from a writing partner (ex. Exchanging work for critique, being held accountable for meeting a word count goal, etc.)?

critiques and being held accountable to the writing times

15. What crafty pursuits do you enjoy when you’re not writing?

Photography and scrapbooking

16. What other hobbies/past times do you like?

Reading and tennis and hiking

17. What non-writing-craft books have you enjoyed?

Pride & Prejudice is my favorite, and I love the Twilight book series.

18. What else would you like to share with us?

I cannot wait to get started. I am looking forward to this project and can’t wait to see who my match is.

KnittingbyBicycle’s questions are answered

Filed under: Goals — Andrea @ 5:33 pm

Hi there! Sorry for the lag, but I just finished moving. I posted my completed questionnaire as a page on my wordpress blog knittingbybicycle.net and it can be found here.

My name is Andrea (pronounced on-DRAY-uh), turning 26 y.o this summer, a knitter and cyclist, and live in Philadelphia. Hi everyone!

My Questionnaire

Filed under: Goals — randomranter @ 5:33 pm

Sorry for the delay, I was having wordpress issues yesterday.

Me: Random Ranter aka Tara

1. At what level would you describe yourself as a writer (for instance, just starting to take myself seriously; searching for a graduate program, etc.)?

I would say after being a writer for years, I have in the last two years started to properly admit to and own the title and to take steps toward possible publication.

2. What genre(s) do you write?

Right now my stuff has a chick lit feel. I have some adult stories on the back burner, but the ones I am working on right now are young adult.

3. How do you fit writing into your life right now?

It’s crammed in around the other stuff. I am working on that.

4. What is your goal for this project (June 1-Aug. 31)?

I need to get the loose ends in my WIP cleaned up and the synopsis polished.

5.What steps do you plan to take to reach that goal?

Keep on writing. I have also targeted some contests so that I have to get it out there.

6.How do you reward yourself (or how would you like to be rewarded) when you meet a goal?

Food. Or reading/knitting time.

7. What writing craft books do you have/like?

I don’t have that many any more. I had Strunk and White and an anthology – On Writing I think. I also read some writer blogs that focus on craft. And I have gone to a few conferences and am going to RWA Nationals this summer.

8. Any craft books you’re interested in checking out?

Yes. Hopefully I will remember those names.

9. What inspires your writing?

All sorts of things – snippets of conversations, a fascinating idea, or just a really good what if.

10. How would your author’s blurb read?

I have trouble with this one, but something like: Tara comes from a family of storytellers and always loved creating stories. She finally deciding she needed to start commiting things to paper. She also enjoys reading, knitting and eating and is working hard on her next story.

11. Tell us about your family (partners, kids, pets, etc.)

My household is me and my cat, but I have a great group of friends who read, write, think, travel, and even sometimes knit.

12. Have you ever participated in Nanowrimo (finished or not!)?

Finished two years running.

13. What can you do to make it easier on yourself to meet your goal for this project?

Writing would be good.

14. What are you looking for in terms of support from a writing partner (ex. Exchanging work for critique, being held accountable for meeting a word count goal, etc.)?

I think someone who will nudge me and remind me I was supposed to be accomplishing something is good.

15. What crafty pursuits do you enjoy when you’re not writing?

Knitting.

16. What other hobbies/past times do you like?

Eating. Reading.

17. What non-writing-craft books have you enjoyed?

Too numerous to list, so let’s tag some authors: Nora Roberts, Carridad Ferrer, Jennifer Crusie, Suzanne Brockmann, Meg Cabot, Vicki Pettersson, and Lani Diane Rich.

18. What else would you like to share with us?

Just a little guilt that I can’t name every author I love. And I’m excited about this.

My Questionnaire and an Ask for Help

Filed under: Goals — Beverly @ 8:28 pm

Hi gang,

I posted my questionnaire on my writing treadmill blog.  Please note that I’m looking for a co-admin, preferably someone who is much more savvy with wordpress than I am!

Thanks,

Beverly
